Those are the basics, and will get you far in your training. Future purchases for your gym could include a power rack, medicine balls, and high quality olympic bars and bumper plates. For now, make sure you have the basics. Here are our recommendations:
Selecttech dumbbells are still (arguably) the best instant adjust dumbbells in the industry. They are the original, have a huge customer loyalty base, and are a pleasure to grip due to their ergonomic handles. Sure, they cost a bit more than the competitor's, but you do want them to last, right? If you have the money, this is the way to go.
And if you need a heavier dumbbell, buy the 1090, or two:
A little less expensive than the Bowflex, but not by much, Powerblock dumbbell fans swear by them. They are literally a block, and your hands go inside them to grasp the handles. This makes for a nice, solid block of weight, but it does partially enclose the hand.
As with the Bowflex Selecttech, these are quick adjust space saving dumbbells and go up to 45 lbs.
